Target Audience

Duration

ADVANCED COMPUTER SKILLSTRAINING PROGRAM

1. Course Overview

The Advanced Computer Skills Training Program is a practical, hands-on course designed to take trainees beyond basic computer familiarity into confident, professional-level use of everyday digital tools. The program targets general public trainees who already have basic computer literacy and wish to build advanced, job-ready skills in account management, computer maintenance, and the Microsoft Office suite.

The course emphasizes learning by doing: every module pairs conceptual instruction with guided practice using realistic tasks and sample files, so trainees leave each session able to apply what they learned immediately.

1.1 Target Audience

General public trainees with basic computer literacy (mouse/keyboard use, opening and saving files, basic internet browsing) who want to build advanced, employable digital skills.

1.2 Duration and Format

  • Total duration: 5 weeks
  • Frequency: 3 sessions per week
  • Session length: 2 hours per session
  • Total contact hours: 30 hours (15 sessions)
  • Format: Instructor-led, hands-on computer lab sessions

1.3 Prerequisites

  • Basic computer literacy: turning a computer on/off, using a mouse and keyboard
  • Ability to open, save, and navigate files and folders
  • Basic familiarity with the Windows desktop environment
  • No prior experience with Microsoft Office is required

1.4 Software and Platform

This syllabus is written for Microsoft Office 2016, and all features described are also available in Office 2013/2010 unless noted otherwise. This ensures the course remains accessible on older institutional computers while still teaching genuinely advanced, transferable skills.

By the end of this training program, trainees will be able to:

  1. Set up, secure, and manage computer user accounts and email accounts using current best practices.
  2. Perform routine computer maintenance tasks that keep a machine running safely and efficiently.

  7. Design simple relational databases and build queries, forms, and reports in Microsoft Access.
  8. Manage professional email communication, scheduling, and contacts efficiently using Microsoft Outlook.
